GREETINGS: With all the activity of transition going on, it’s been awhile since I’ve issued an “In Touch.” Our Monrovia home has sold; Judi and Emily have moved to our new home in Arizona (Judi will be back for district assembly); I’m here until July 19.
District Assembly is this week, so you can imagine the business in our district office. This is an historic assembly for us in that a new district superintendent will be elected. I know you’ve been in prayer for this decision.
All meetings will be at Pasadena First Church, 3700 E. Sierra Madre Blvd. Missions Convention begins Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM and continues through Thursday until 4:30 PM. District Assembly begins Thursday evening at 7:00 PM and continues through Friday evening at the conclusion of the Ordination Service. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
I will give my final report on Friday morning around 9:30 AM. It truly has been an honor serving this great district for the past sixteen years! Judi and I will be forever grateful for the love and support you have given us.

PASTOR RON SALSBURY UPDATE: - June, 2015 - Warnings and Promises!
Proverbs 2:6-8 (NIV) 6 The LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. 7 He holds victory in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, 8 for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones.
We all see the value of warnings. If a bridge on a road we were traveling was washed out, we would hope for a sign. If there was a fire in a building we were in, we would expect an alarm. God gives us “warnings” in his word to both protect us and bless us. The question is, do we read them, trust them, and obey them?
In November 2014, the Food and Drug Administration released its rule for calorie counts on chain restaurants. The final rule is pretty tough. It requires movie theaters, pizza chains, and grocery stores to include calorie counts on their products. Most Americans like this idea. We all know we need to eat healthier. Nearly 75 percent of Americans support menu labeling. After New York required labels in 2008, 84 percent of residents said they found the labels helpful, and 93 percent of people in a public health clinic sample saw menu labeling as important.
Unfortunately, there's one big problem with food labeling. It doesn’t work! It doesn't seem to change what we eat. Researchers reviewed 31 studies published between January 2007 and July 2013 that explored how calorie labeling influenced consumer choices at cafes and restaurants. One of the researchers concluded the results of this review: "The best designed studies show that calorie labels do not have the desired effect in reducing total calories ordered at the population level." People, in spite of the warnings, didn’t change! It’s one thing to have the information, it quite another thing to use the information! This is also true with regard to the Bible. God’s Word, however, does not just warn us of harm, it also promises us blessing.
David wrote in Psalm 119:30, 32 (NIV) 30 I have chosen the way of truth; I have set my heart on your laws. 32 I run in the path of your commands, for you have set my heart free.
And in Psalm 19:7, 11 (NIV)
7 The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple. 11 By them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.
“Great reward.” That is the purpose of God’s “warnings!” Not to limit our life, but to fulfill and bless our life for the Glory of God! This doesn’t mean life will always be easy. Sometimes it’s very hard. But there are times when we make it much harder than it needs to be by not following God’s warnings and trusting his promises!
Many of us know Proverbs 3:5-6, and I love it in The Message paraphrase, 5 Trust GOD from the bottom of your heart; don't try to figure out everything on your own. 6 Listen for GOD's voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he's the one who will keep you on track.

This is so true! We need to be reminded … even warned! That the only way to “keep on track” is to trust in God! Like the recent, tragic train derailment in Philadelphia, our lives can all too easily end up in tragedy.

So beloved, I encourage you to read God’s Word, trust God’s Word, and obey God’s Word! Think of it as “life labeling!” I’m finding that even in the toughest of times, God can be trusted and obeyed. It’s totally worth it!

Trusting in God’s Promises and Enjoying his Peace,

Pastor Ron Salsbury

P.S. Health wise, I’m feeling great!! We’re praying, believing, watching and waiting. I’m going for another PET scan at the end of this month. I’ll keep you posted. Thanks for your prayers! Faith, not Fear!!!
