Few Thoughts 6-23-2017

Greetings from Indy!  Some people may have thought, “Oh boy, let’s gets ready for some hot and humid weather as we leave the SoCal area…”  But let me say, upon arriving here in Indy, and getting the reports of what the weather is like back home… sounds like we got away from the heat by coming to Indianapolis.  The temps have been incredibly mild.  And for a guy who loves the heat… I’m a bit disappointed.  Perhaps it will heat up and the humidity will crank up in the next few days.

ENCOURAGEMENTSUMMER IN THE PSALMSBlessed are those who have regard for the weak; the Lord delivers them in times of trouble.  The Lord protects and preserves them – they are counted among the blessed in the land – He does not give them over to the desires of their foes.  The Lord sustains them on their sickbed and restores them from their bed of illness.  (Psalm 41:1-3)  We are only a few days into the General Conventions and Assembly for the Church of the Nazarene and allow me to say how proud I am to belong to such a church as this.  What a denomination!  Just as Jesus went from village to village… place to place… He encountered need after need.  And He met people there.  Those who needed healing, He provided His healing touch.  Those who needed forgiveness, He forgave.  Those who needed cleansing, He washed them clean as snow.

This is our mission… to make Christ-like disciples in the nations.  The Lord made me who I am.  And when I confessed my sin to Jesus, He not only washed me clean of my sin, but placed His Holy Spirit in me and redirected my path.  As He sanctifies me through and through, each day, He calls me to a life of holiness.  I find it interesting, that as much as I desire to live for Jesus, and His Spirit is within me, He still calls me to make “Christ-like” disciples… and you know what our (or better said… my tendency) is to do… to make “Greg-like” disciples.  How often do we go through life, shaking our head when people don’t think or do things the way “we” do?  Jesus said for to make disciples after Him… not me.

The Church of the Nazarene has been doing that very thing.  Making Christ-like disciples.  And I am hearing wonderful reports through a variety of ministries… and you know where the church is growing exponentially… where we have regard for the weak.  Praise His holy name.  I wish you could have heard the stories of how God is still using the JESUS FILM… or the way the Church is CONNECTED as a body so that we can offer help from one country to the next as we assist in the refugee crisis…

The Church of the Nazarene is alive and growing.  We are connected to one another.  And I’m excited to be a part of this wonderful family.  Is there anyone you are connecting with today?  Are you discipling someone today?
